Book Homework Project

Year 2 thought a literary project would be the perfect way to channel their enthusiasm on all things book-related as the year group are such a creative bunch and have proven to be such fantastic readers through the amazing efforts of our Reading Rockets initiative!

This half term the children have decided that they would like their next homework project to involve creating their own book cover. The teachers are very pleased because this means we can link the homework to our whole school focus on reading.

The children must include a title, author and front page illustration. But why stop there … perhaps children could really set the ball rolling on their story and create the back cover too by writing the blurb to their book and ignite their audience’s imagination!

Turning a cereal box inside out and trimming the edges would be a simple way to have your blank canvas. And from there … The possibilities are endless which are only limited by the children’s imaginations! Perhaps they could make a 3D front cover, create their artwork on the computer or use paints, wax crayons, chalks or different textured paper and card to create an eye-catching design.

Children could take inspiration from fantasy stories such as The Gruffalo or James and the Giant Peach. Perhaps they prefer their own twist on a traditional story like Little Red Riding Hood or Jack and the Beanstalk.

All projects will then be presented which will give the children a chance to talk about their book and the reason they chose that genre, plot and design.

Projects will be due in school on Monday 11^th February so they can be presented throughout the week.
