The Spring term has already been a wonderful time and the children have really enjoyed their Caribbean topic. Thank you to all the parents for your continuing support!

3D shape building
Ever wondered other ways you could put jelly tots and cocktail sticks to good use? Well in true Blue Peter style, the children have been making their own 3D shapes and here are a few they made earlier...
The activity was fantastic to help their understanding of different features of the shapes and they had great time in the process!

The flower harvest in Colombia
We have been getting ready for our Harvest celebrations for this Friday's special assembly. Our link school in Colombia taught us about their Flower harvest and the festival they have to celebrate. We didn't want to miss out so we made our own flower arrangement. Here's Year 2 in action .... We'll reveal how our final art display looks when it's ready!

Mr. Twit comes to Year 2!
This morning the children were treated to (or horrified by!) Mr. Twit making an appearance - food in beard and all. As would be expected he stank the place out, offended children (and teachers!) explained why he had not taken a shower since he was seven, and gave us a few interesting insights into how he and Mrs. Twit met... it made for some fine reading when the children described Mr. Twit in Literacy later that morning!

Get ready for Recyclemania - Four day countdown!
To help spread the message of our environmentally conscious stall, the Year 2s have designed an amazing set of flyers to advertise across school and to potential customers (That's where you come in family and friends!) Here's an online preview of a few - we think you'll agree they are very professional and will certainly help draw custom in.
Don't forget to tell everyone they can buy bracelets, keyring, bag accessories and bookmarks from the Recyclemania stall.

Recyclemania logo
We can also reveal the winner of the Recyclemania logo. Drumroll please ... Chloe Oldfield! All the children had a briefing to use the name and tagline 'cash for trash' in a bold and eye-catching design. We think you'll agree this fits the brief perfectly. Well done Chloe!
Look out for our forthcoming flyers and posters to advertise the Reyclemania stall.
Recyclemania!
Yes that's right - an excusive reveal of Year 2's stall name for the forthcoming Summer Fair - RECYCLEMANIA! The children have had their entrepreneurial hats on this week. Although their products will predominantly be made from recycled materials there are certain items that the children need to buy to get the ball rolling. The children had a range of products to choose from and decided which items would be the most cost effective for their products so they can make the most money possible!

Investors in Pupils
The children have been working very hard all year towards their individual targets as part of our Investors in Pupils initiative. This term they have been working towards their new targets. These range from sitting on the carpet smartly to learning their timestables or remembering their reading books and diaries. The children take a lot of pride in working towards their targets and when they have achieved it 18 times they have a special trip to Mrs. Kelly's office for a reward in her treat box!
The children take steps to achieve the class target together and as their reward they receive money from a budget they are given every term. The budget only decreases when whiteboard pens, pencils and glue sticks are lost ... money is then taken off for each of these. It's a fantastic way for the children to have ownership and a financial understanding of the resources they use in class. Last term's money was used towards a lovely new gardening area in 2B and 2C have just over £50 .... we'll update you with what treats they spend theirs on!

Rubbish!
The children have been very enthusiastic about our new topic 'Rubbish' and how to manage it to be more environmentally friendly.
We read a wonderful book called Dinosaurs and all that Rubbish and wrote our own 'Dinosaur charters' on how to look after the planet as well as our own version of the story.
Then, as part of the '3 Rs', discussed how to Reduce, Recycle and Reuse! The children came up with some fabulous ideas.

We considered how to sort rubbish and took part in a Recycling Relay!

Being funny for money...
Friday 15th March saw the entire school dress up to raise money, with a lot of giggles along the way, for fantastic causes both home and abroad. The children didn't disappoint with outfits from Scooby Doo to Christmas puddings! We spent time thinking about what our money might help contribute to helping a child have a healthy and safe life in Africa and wrote our ideas on a postcard ...
World Book Day - 7th March
As Year 2 are such dedicated bookworms, the children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to bring in their favourite book. At 1 o'clock the whole school read for 20 minutes - a fantastic way to show our love of reading! We also recommended books to each other which was a superb way of discovering books that may become our favourites!

Maths Measuring
We enjoyed measuring with different equipment during outdoor maths. We were looking at what objects were longer than a metre and which were shorter.
'ME' Boxes
The children created some fantastic 'ME' boxes and clearly a lot of effort had been put in. It was great to find out about the children's interests, likes and family. Thank you for all the hard work that was put in by adults at home as well.
Making 3D Shapes
We had fun in the Autumn Term making 3D shapes using pipe cleaners and paper straws. Although it was fiddily it was great fun!
